It's not often that Remy doubts his research. There's an ongoing online debate, for instance, as to whether his first food oddity, 1000 year old eggs, come cooked or require cooking. Remy stays above it. He's eaten that food oddity - on to the next oddity. He's heard from countless balut egg aficionados who say he undercooked his balut egg (they're right). The egg he ate was bloody but delicious. But on to the next food oddity.
Who, though, would eat a huge rhinoceros beetle? The giant insect was purchased as food, so he knows someone eats the things. But it would be interesting to meet one of these people... |

Lizzies library was early 90s kids show on the ABC TV in Australia Created and written by Kate Henderson, who now lives in England, and directed and designed by Tim Adlide, who now is an animation director at SBS. The show was narrated and used the voice of Noni Hazlehurst, who was on Better homes and Gardens and Play school to name a few. The Producer was Phillip Bowman who ran Henderson Bowman Productions, but we dont know what he is doing now. The show aired form 1994-1996. This episode is about Greek Easter, in this episode Fatini has lost her Ya Yas Greek Easter recipes. She turns the shop upside down looking for them. The children go to Lizzie and Munro for help, they look in a recipe book, but they cant find the recipes their after. Lizzie takes them out to see Tina and asks her to recite the recipes to them for Fatina to make for the Easter feast. So there's nothing strange about candy, eh? Candy is candy, huh? Barring some particularly sour or strangely-shaped or squirty type of candy, you've seen and tried it all, have you?
How about candy that smells like fish and tastes like oysters? Yeah. Not just oyster-flavored drops. Oyster candy. That got your attention.
Leave it to the creative and adventurous Japanese candy makers to come up with a candy so different that Remy just had to try it. Fortunately, a friend in Japan was nice enough to send a package over. |
